Casey Anthony Hit with IRS Tax Lien

By Michael Cohn, Accounting Today

Casey Anthony, the Florida mother who is currently standing trial for murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee, has been slapped with a $68,520 tax lien from the Internal Revenue Service.

Anthony owed that amount in taxes from 2008, according to TMZ.com. That was the same year Anthony was accused of murdering her daughter.

Anthony was not known to have a steady job, although she did work as a night club manager for a while. However, the year of her daughter’s disappearance, the ABC TV network offered her $200,000 for family photos and videos. Forbes.com blogger Kelly Phillips Erb speculated the tax lien may be for unpaid taxes on that deal.

Anthony has been facing a dramatic trial in Florida this past week, with prosecutors presenting hours of video footage of jailhouse visits by family members and police interrogations in which she told them contradictory information. Jurors have also been hearing allegations of abuse at the trial against her father from the defense, along with claims that the child died in a swimming pool and her father helped cover up the crime. Anthony’s parents have denied the defense attorney’s claims.
